Maya was in sixth standard when she had to attend her sister's wedding in Kerala. She was very excited and thrilled as she was going to attend her own caste wedding for the first time. Everything was perfect, the bride looking very pretty in her white saree with a golden border and the bridegroom in his white washed shirt and a dhoti. The wedding ended up successfully and the lunch served was a typical dish of Kerala which was quite scrumptious. Maya was having a good time with her sisters but she could not ignore the fact that she was missing her grandmother very badly. She felt quite strange as the feeling suddenly sank in and it has been eight years since her grandmother's death. Maya was very much pampered by her and her grandmother used to always gift her the favourite chocolates and ice-creams for which Maya always cribbed for. When the event was finally over, followed with unhappy goodbyes, Maya sat with her mother and shared the feeling with her. Her mother simply said,"It was my mother's dream to attend all the weddings of our family, but her wish was however not fulfilled. I feel she misses us more than what we do."
"How do you know that?" Maya asked innocently.
Her mother smiled at her. "I just know. I can feel her vibes sometimes."
Maya couldn't understand a single thing. That night however she realized what her mother's words really meant.
It was midnight when Maya suddenly woke up from her sleep. The windows of the room were wide open and through her squinted eyes, she saw golden flame burning outside her window. It was a small flame and only darkness surrounded it. As she was sleepy and a bit scared, she didn't check out what exactly was burning outside.
Suddenly, her mother's voice echoed in her mind."I feel she misses us more than what we do."
Sometimes dead miss us more than we do. Do not laugh at others' beliefs which you may find stupid at that moment but may soon make your eyes open some day or other.Believe in God. Believe in belief.
